I really dislike plumbing projects. Access is always a pain in the ass, and plumbing that's been in service for more than 3 hours has weird gross crap in it.

For Mrs. Shoe Pilot's birthday and grad school graduation, two of the things she's getting are new faucets in the bathroom. I'm at the halfway point in the project and it has only required ONE trip to Home Depot so far, and I THINK I have all the parts needed to complete the project, even if something goes horribly wrong.

Also, I've made it this far without any unexpected catastrophic leaks. This is rare for plumbing projects. I've had leaks where I expected them (in the old shut off valves) but I have the parts to remedy those leaks.

Now it's lunch time, and I shall soldier on afterward!

Depending on what state you are in, the press fittings(?) at Home Depot are wonderful. (california didn't use to carry them, not sure about now, Utah does) No glue, no soldering, just snap the pipes together with the connector and I havn't had one leak yet.

I feel for you. Had a plastic pipe break under the kitchen sink a couple weeks ago. Not only a pain in the ass to repair, but water everywhere. Just glad I was at home when it broke.

Yes! I got those. Brasscraft sells quarter turn right angle ball valves that just press onto the pipe stubbed out of the wall. they're magical!

I've been lucky that the old valves are far enough away from the wall that even after cutting off the old compression rings, I have enough pipe sticking out to use the press-fit without having to sweat on extensions.

And I've finished! No additional trips to Home Depot and I only turned the water off twice (I turned it back on at the halfway point while I ate lunch).

GREAT SUCCESS.
